t-g-i-eff technology!

after deciding to finally start the blog… my camera broke. boo.  upon asking many friends, visiting many trouble-shooting websites, and even consulting the opinion of a medical geek squad professional, my sony cybershot circa 2006 was declared doa (dead on arrival).  dunzo.  a goner.  out. of. service.
with a trip to chicago around the corner (we’re leaving this monday!!) i knew that a big purchase was in order for me.  i am the daughter of a computer programmer, and the adage that “the shoemaker’s kids have no shoes” definitely applies to me — the computer programmer’s daughter has NO tech smarts.  seriously, ctrl-alt-del is my favorite only computer command!  so, armed with mucho advice i purchased a Nikon Coolpix S220 – and i’m crossing my fingers that this one will work out better!

i started off my friday the way i would any other — at the hospital!  no, not as a paitent, but as a volunteer.  each friday morning i spend 5 hours in the pediatric playroom with the cutest little kiddos.  perfect experience for my employment (ten years from now!) at a hospital.  fridays mean brekkie to-go, so i whipped up this concoction to tote along with me…

breakfast
in the big tupperware:  1/2 a small cantaloupe + a handful of green grapes, and in the other:  a container of plain, non-fat yogurt mixed up with a little maple + vanilla extracts & splenda, and lastly a wild sweet orange tazo tea ala starbucks.  yumm.

i left the hospital at one more than ready for lunch!  coming home to a fridge full of veggies that i knew must go before my departure for chicago…
lunch
behold:  spaghetti squash with italian stewed tomatoes, spinach and cucumber salad drizzled with light balsamic vinagrette post-photoshoot, and a sprinkle of parmesean across the board.

before heading out for an afternoon chi-city shopping spree, i cooled off with a ”healthy bunch” cherry creamsicle.
creamsiclely yum yum
4 hours, 5 stores, and too many dollars later, i came home to fuel up for a night out in manitou springs…  on the dinner menu was 1/2 of a humongous chicken breast, a medium sized artichoke with lemon-garlic aioli, and a cucumber+feta salad with a drizzle of afforementioned balsamic.  in the aioli:  free miracle whip, part of a clove of garlic, few drops of lemon juice.
winna winna chicken dinna
as a night cap, i went with one of my friends, andrew (who will also be going to chicago!  i’m not that excited…ha!) and a couple other people to manitou springs and had a glass of zin (rookie, i know…)  sorry no pictures of manitou, but there will be some soon — i L-O-V-E this town… a cute little hippie area filled with unique little places, absolutely no chain-anything here.  hope you all had a wonderful friday!

question – any must-see sights in chicago that i should definitely see while i’m there?
